Report Date: February 14, 2026
Location: Salmon River (Pulaski, NY)
Primary Target: Steelhead
Water Conditions: Typical winter flows with clarity varying by stretch.
The Current Bite The winter Steelhead season is in full swing on the Salmon River. We are seeing a steady movement of "fresh" fish pushing up from Lake Ontario, supplemented by plenty of "winter holdovers" staying deep in the slower runs. The bite has been most consistent during the mid-morning hours as the water temperature ticks up slightly.
Tactics and Success Our Fishwright rowed drift boats have been a major factor in our success this week. By staying quiet and using the oars to hold our position, we’ve been able to present baits naturally to fish tucked behind ice shelves and in deeper pocket water.
Top Producing Baits: Blue and pink egg sacs have been the go-to, though we are seeing good results on beads in natural "washed out" colors during higher clarity.
Location: We are focusing on the mid-to-lower river sections where the water remains slightly more tempered.
Guide Perspective: Staying Warm and Productive The lake effect snow has been hitting the Oswego and Pulaski areas, but our heated drift boats are keeping guests on the water longer and in much better spirits. When the temperatures drop, being able to warm your hands between drifts makes a massive difference in your hook-set reaction time.
We still have a few openings for the remainder of the month and into March as the spring migration begins to pick up. Whether you want to drift the river or prefer a walk and wade session, the fish are here and the conditions are holding steady.
